Mama I made it!!!!!

There a ton of beautiful young women or men that could have been chosen to be apart of this campaign, but they chose me. Amongst some highly popular blog sites that has a heavier reputation and awareness than mine such as NecoleBitchie, Blogxilla, RapRadar, AllThatsFab and more, lil’ ol’ me was thrown in the mix.
I want to give a major shout out to Monee Perry, Interactive Manager of anything “Roc” related. I want to give another major shout out to Aleesha Smalls, Senior Interactive Manager of anything “Roc” related, especially Rocawear. I held a meeting with these two a few months back with screen shots of my blog posts, writing samples and reference links to my video interviews. I kept it 100% and they accepted me full on for who I am. Y’all know how crazy I can talk. But I mind my words when I write for Roc4Life.com
Looking at these pictures is still a major shock for me because exactly a year ago Dallas Penn & I had just wrapped up doing the red carpet for 2008’s VH1 Hip Hop Honors where we had awesome footage. Yeah, that footage is being held hostage by Dallas’ camera guy for some reason. Trust me when I say I kept it 10000% percent with those rappers on the red carpet, especially questioning their authenticity of their jewelry. Anyway, that gig right there was my first “media” thing that I ever did. I wasn’t apart of anyone’s site or movement. I was just happy to be alive holding a mic talking to Juelz Santana and getting eye fucked by Fat Joe (well, not that happy).
Since then I’ve interviewed all sorts of talent at various levels of importance. I’ve attended all sorts of press conferences and have contributed to many web publications. My progress is still a process of whatever this major picture is, I still haven’t figured out what that is. But it’s sure as hell better than the gigs I’ve had over the last few years. Working jobs that don’t promise you any enhancement of your livelihood but have the NERVE to put you through hell and harmful situations is what I call hell. I used to job search at the old gigs in hopes I’d stumble upon a savior. I never did.
My situation is still not perfect though. I still hustle to make ends meet and work every day to maintain my relationships with labels, publicists and independents (who most of them are pretty damn cool on a personal note). It’s hard, but I’m happy. I’m wealthy…emotionally. Being apart of this campaign is just a reminder that I am on the right track. All those nights where I questioned if I were doing the right thing, all those weekends I canceled on people because I had work to turn in early Sunday, all those nights I stayed up until 2am or 3am after working on the laptop almost 15 hours straight just to wake up and be back on it 9am for another 15 hours, all those mornings I rushed to the salon to get my hair done to then rush to a computer to work on articles due in a few hours and then rush to an assignment at an event without eating before hitting those open bars, yeah… I was doing the right thing.

I don’t know if this will ever happen again in my entire life, so I’m milking this moment for all its worth. Thank you for allowing me to be apart of this moment and for allowing me to contribute content MY WAY and trusting my creative decisions. Thank you for seeing my potential and for knowing I am on the road to becoming GREAT. Thank you to all the journalists who went to college for journalism, worked at magazines, earned their editor titles and still respect my grind and my style of writing. I do this not to disrespect your craft, but to be apart of a great thing, even if we didn’t take the same road.
Thank you to Kathy Iandoli who has continued to lookout for me, encourage me and be the reality check when I’m hitting a low.
I do this for the love of the culture. I do this for the love of music. I do this because I have a story to share and I’m using my natural talents to allow me to share it with you.
THANK YOU!!!!
The campaign goes from September to December, so make sure you check out some of my friends on TheDiamondCelebration.com This campaign is pretty huge and the people involved speaking on the history of the clothing line is a major as well!
Now, let’s not get it twisted. You already know I had my flip cam on me to document this moment and so did my homegirl Starr of Gangstarrgirl.com. Take a moment to peep out some behind the scenes footage of this momentous occasion. We got Elliott Wilson of RapRadar.com, Blogxilla of Blogxilla.com/GlobalGrind.com, Necole Bitchie of NecoleBitchie.com, Aleesha Smalls and Monee Perry of Rocawear and some more good folks.
